Matt is the Managing Director of Garmony Property Consultants, is a Fellow of the Australian Property Institute (API), Licensed Valuer No. 41203 in WA and a Certified Practising Valuer (CPV). Matt has been in the property industry since 1994, however has grown up with the real estate and property valuation industry and the family business, and therefore you could say it is in his blood. Matt’s career commenced with our company formally known as John Garmony & Associates as a trainee valuer, and then spent 5 years as a licensed valuer with a St Georges Terrace commercial Real Estate agency in the valuation department undertaking commercial and industrial valuations. Matt returned to John Garmony & Associates in 2003 in an executive position bringing a wealth of Commercial and Industrial valuation experience and in 2006 became Managing Director and changed the company name to Garmony Property Consultants.
Matt is a past Chairman of the Young Property Professionals of the Australian Property Institute and is a past (2001-2004) and now current (2019 on wards) API State Committee/Board Member, and has been involved with various committees of the Australian Property Institute since 2001. In 2002, Matt was awarded the Australian Property Institutes – Excellence in Property Award, and in 2009 was advanced to a Fellow member of the Australian Property Institute. Matt’s dedication to the dynamic nature of the property valuation industry has driven him to research and become experienced in the valuation of commercial and specialist property types. Over the past 20 years, Matt has become an industry recognised expert in the valuation of Service Stations and Roadhouses, has completed valuations of Golf Courses, Retirement Villages, Motor Racing tracks, ground and sea bed leases, aircraft hangars, childcare centres, NDIS/SDA properties and residential development sites. Matt’s professional experience, his detailed approach and thorough analysis of market evidence and approaches to value ensures his regular instructions on complex property matters including compensation assessments and litigation cases and is often appointed as an expert valuer for legal matters. Matt carries out numerous market rental valuations on a broad range of property types and is regularly appointed by the President of the Australian Property Institute for Rental Determinations.
Matt is currently on the Western Australian State Committee of the Australian Property Institute (API) and was the API’s lead representative on the Strata Titles Act Reform Committee between 2013 & 2021 and has been on the Western Australian Planning Commission’s Board of Valuers since 2013. Matt was elected as the inaugural Chair of the Curtin University’s, School of Economics Accounting & Finance, Property Advisory Panel since 2021. Matt is a Licensed Real Estate Agent, a Certified Property Practitioner (CPP) and a Certified Development Practitioner (CDP).
