Garmony Property Consultants is deeply saddened to announce the passing of William “John” Garmony on 23 July 2023. John, along with his wife Pam, started the company known as John Garmony & Associates in May 1984. John was a highly respected licensed valuer and property professional in Perth & Western Australia.

John started his property career in 1967 with Elders Smith Goldsbrough Mort initially in the stock sales yards and then in the Rural Land Sales Department. In 1968 he became a trainee valuer with Perth Building Society (PBS) (now Advance Bank) and was with Sterling Estates in 1972. Between 1972 and 1982, John was a valuer and eventually an Associate Director of Valuations at Joseph Charles Learmonth Duffy.

In 1983 John started the Valuations Department at Richard Ellis (now CBRE) and in May 1984 founded John Garmony Real Estate and Valuers in Dianella. In 1987 the Real Estate business was sold to Max Comben so John could focus on property valuations and the valuation business was moved to South Perth.

John was an extremely experienced property valuer, undertaking valuations on a wide range of property types for a broad range of purposes and was highly regarded as a valuer of specialist property types. John gave back to the property industry, training numerous valuers over the years and was heavily involved with the Australian Property Institute (API). John was a Past President (2006-2008) of the API (Western Australian Division) and a past Chairman of the API’s Professional Development and Complaints Committees. John also sat on numerous API National Taskforce Committees on property related matters.

John’s son Matt returned to the business in 2003 and took over the business in 2006 and the company’s name was changed to Garmony Property Consultants. After a couple of years, John was able to retire from full time valuation work which allowed him to enjoy a life of travelling the world with his wife Pam.

With property in his blood, John remained involved in the family business, as a mentor to our licensed valuers, and to Director Matt, as well as assisting with research and other property consultancy matters.

John will be sadly missed, but his legacy will live on.

VALE John Garmony, Licensed Valuer – 1948 to 2023.
